Lingerie-inspired fashion is a timeless trend. There is always someone who shows up on the red carpet in a corset or a naked dress. However, the 2021 Met Gala, which is known for fashion statements, was full brimming with celebrities in their intimates.

The pandemic has had a major influence on fashion. We are all dressing for comfort now. NPD Group reports that consumers are buying more hybrid clothing that can be used for both work and lounge.

So is it any surprise that we saw these trends reflected at one of the largest fashion events of the year last night?

Most of us have done some above-the-keyboard dressing this past year. Real pants are decidedly out and Timothy Chalamet was so perfectly "In" in a black-tie version of out go-to Zoom outfit: sweatpants and a tuxedo jacket!

We also had more time to explore riskier styles during our time at home and the intimate apparel industry reported that sales of sexy lingerie soared during the pandemic.

Innerwear as Outerwear Trends

We saw a lot of transparent dresses (above), two-piece looks that were topped with bras and camisole tops (below) and a lot of briefs (below).

Bra tops have been huge in athleisure, and they make a statement on the red carpet, as well. From Kate Hudson's classic look to Camilla Cabello's sporty crop, we love seeing this sleek silhouette dressed up for a night out.

Visible panty lines! We spent a lot of time fighting against visible panty lines, but the crowd last night seemed to be all in favor of them.

If I could have my pick, I like to think I'd go with the flower-adorned Moschino gown worn by Irina Shayk. But let's be serious, that looks tight and hard to sit down in. The closest I get to Met Gala fashion is wrapping myself up in a quilt to watch Netflix each night!
